DAVE Penney was this morning unveiled as the new manager of Darlington.
The former Doncaster Rovers boss succeeds David Hodgson, who was sacked by the club earlier this month.
Martin Gray, who was also in the running for the managers job, has been named as Penney's assistant.
Penney's appointment comes just eight weeks after the 42-year-old left Rovers after four-and-a-half years in charge at Belle Vue.
During that time Penney guided Rovers to League One after back-to-back promotions from the Conference.
Chairman George Houghton described Penney's arrival as a "major coup" for the club.
Penney will take charge of Quakers' Johnstone's Paint trophy clash at Tranmere Rovers tomorrow night.
