PARK BEHAVIOUR: WE would like to support the woman who wrote concerning the behaviour of young people in Bensham Park, Darlington, and the lack of facilities for them (HAS, Page 4, Oct 27).

The Liberal Democrats in Harrowgate Hill are taking these issues very seriously. We have conducted a survey of young people to find out what facilities they want, when and where. The young people have stated that they want a youth club, somewhere to go where they can meet their friends, as opposed to meeting them on the streets and the parks.

The survey results are being discussed with the borough council's Youth Service on Friday. We are exploring funding options for youth facilities and there will be a meeting with the young people and all interested parties in Harrowgate Hill soon to develop the facilities for young people. - Alan Macnab, Anne Marie Curry, Ray Bennett, Liberal Democrat Focus Group, Harrowgate Hill Ward, Darlington

DARLINGTON FC

IT is quite obvious that Martin Gray is not the man to take charge of Darlington Football Club, and most Quakers' fans that I have to spoken to agree.

Darlington have collected five points out of a possible 12 since he has taken over team duties, and we have struggled against mediocre teams such as Hartlepool and Hereford and got a 5-0 hiding from a dreadful Rochdale team.

I just hope chairman George Houghton has noticed the players' response since David Hodgson was dismissed and realises that we need an experienced manager to get the Quakers out of the lower leagues of English football. - Christopher Wardell, Darlington

WARD COUNCILLOR

WE were dismayed to read that the Labour Party has snubbed Councillor Eric Wilson for re-election in Cockerton West on Darlington Borough Council, saying he wasn't dedicating enough time to his duties.

Recently, at a planning appeal in our area, Coun Wilson turned up without invitation and fought our corner admirably.

We would certainly vote for Coun Wilson should he decide to stand as an Independent in our ward at next May's local elections. - Mr and Mrs MA Cooper, Darlington
