PLANS to build 14 new houses on the site of a former school are to be discussed by councillors next week.
The application for the L-shaped site, on the corner of Thompson Street West and Bowman Street, in Darlington, which also includes two flats, has been submitted by Walter Thompson Construction.
Darlington Borough Council previously gave planning permission in 2007 to convert the former Harrowgate Hill Infants School for residential purposes, but it was never implemented and the site subsequently cleared.
The new application includes a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes, arranged around a courtyard with up to twenty parking spaces.
Several objections have been received from local residents who have raised concerns about access though narrow estate roads and existing traffic pressures on North Road and Whessoe Road.
The application has been recommended for approval by planning officers at Darlington Borough Council, subject to a number of conditions, including measures to tackle some of the highways concerns.
The council’s planning committee will discuss the application at 1.30pm on Wednesday, at the town hall.
