Darlington have today confirmed the signing of striker John Campbell from Northern League side Newcastle Benfield.
The 22-year-old forward, who’s scored 25 goals for Benfield this season, has signed an 18-month contract at the Northern Echo Arena after completing a medical at the weekend.
Darlington received clearance at midday today after agreeing an undisclosed fee with the Northern League first division club, which could rise with appearances and performances.
Quakers chairman Raj Singh today said: “It’s another good signing for the club.
“Mark Cooper did his homework on John and he’d attracted a lot of interest, including from some League One clubs.
“The deal is performance-related which suits all parties, with an option to extend it by a further year or possibly two, if we want to.
“We’re delighted to be giving the lad a chance but the deal works for us as well.”
Campbell, Benfield’s top scorer this season and the second top marksman in the Northern League first division, had a spell as a YTS at Manchester City and has recently had trials with Swindon and Leyton Orient.
