IMPROVEMENTS to a village's sports field are nearing completion, but its pitches may not be ready until October.
The community in Heighington has been working hard to improve its field over the 18 months.
However, because of the weather, the newly-laid football pitches are not playable yet, and may not be ready until October if the dry weather continues.
The pitches have new drainage but villagers are hoping for more rain to help the new grass grow.
At a meeting of the Heighington Football Forum this week, the committee heard that it was never the intention to have pitches of Premier League quality.
However, with the three-year maintenance plan this could be possible.
The car park is finished and a fence is to be installed next week.
Many teams which use the pitches have not paid their fees yet, as some are waiting to find out when the pitches will be playable.
The next meeting of the Football Forum is on Monday, September 4, in Heighington Village Hall.
