DARLINGTON are facing the daunting task of having to play an average of a game every three days during the weeks following Christmas after new dates for three matches were revealed.

Dates have now been confirmed for the club’s recent postponed games, with the Boxing Day home match signalling the start of 12 games in 38 days.

Into an already packed January programme have been crammed two rearranged home games – against Histon (Jan 11) and Kidderminster (Jan 18) – after they were postponed recently due to the weather.

Also called off was the trip to Luton, due to Quakers’ involvement in the FA Cup, and that has now been arranged for the first day in February.

Manager Mark Cooper is not concerned and believes once he has been able to make additions to his squad they will be able to cope with the demanding schedule.

“I’m not one for making excuses and we’ll deal with it if we have to play three games in a week,” he said.

“I’m sure there’ll be other teams doing it.

“Once we strengthen in January we should be able to cope with the number of games.

“There’s two or three positions I’m looking at but it wouldn’t be fair of me to name them.

“I have to consider the players currently occupying those positions.

“We’re just going to add three or four really good players to help the group that we’ve already got.”

Cooper’s team are in action at Cambridge United tomorrow, weather permitting, and the squad travels today.

Among the party will be Paul Arnison and Liam Hatch, both of whom were suspended for Tuesday evening’s FA Trophy win over Tamworth.
