WORK to improve two blocks of flats in a deprived area of Darlington is due to start.
The council-owned three-storey blocks, in Stocksmoor Close, will be refurbished, with some flats being extended and all bed-sits being converted into flats.
All flats will get new heating, bathrooms, kitchens and re-wiring and ground floor flats will have showers fitted. The front and back garden areas will also be renovated and car parking added at the gable ends.
A CCTV system will be installed at the main entrance and in the parking area.
Refurbishment work will also be carried out at flats in blocks two to 12 in West Moor Road.
