COUNCILLORS in Darlington are to discuss how the authority will react in the event of a civil emergency.
Darlington Borough Council's public protection and community partnerships scrutiny committee is to hear information on the requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
The Act has introduced new requirements on local authorities in the way they deal with emergencies.
New duties include risk assessments, emergency planning, exercising, warning and informing the public, sharing information and business continuity planning.
One key area where progress has been made is an operational plan for an influenza pandemic.
A training calendar has also been devised to record training and exercising for all staff involved in civil contingencies.
To help with business and continuity a booklet is planned for publication and a web page and workshops are also being developed.
The scrutiny committee will discuss the report at its meeting on Tuesday.
