A PACK has been produced to prevent elderly and vulnerable people in Darlington becoming victims of doorstep crime.
The pack contains information about how to deal with scams including doorstep callers, distraction burglaries and junk mail.
It has been put together by the Darlington Consumer Support Network (CSN), co-ordinated by Darlington Borough Council's trading standards team.
During the summer months there are particular concerns about rogue gardeners and tree fellers, who overcharge for work or use their trade as an excuse to sneak into homes.
Stephen Harker, cabinet member for consumer and environmental services, said: "The information packs are all about preventing doorstep crime and keeping our most elderly and vulnerable residents safe in their own homes.
"Anyone can become a victim of crime, but if people just take small steps, they can protect themselves."
The packs are available from Darlington Trading Standards, Crown Street library and the Citizen's Advice Bureau. For more information, call trading standards on (01325) 388799.
