BUDDING Picassos are being given the chance to put their artwork on display to the public.

Polam Hall School is setting up an exhibition, Our Heritage Matters, which will showcase work from young artists aged from three to 11.

The exhibition will display various forms of art, entered by school pupils as part of a competition run by Polam Hall School, in Darlington.

Children from the town's nurseries, primary schools and other schools have submitted pieces into four different categories based on the topic of why heritage is important to them.

Members of the public can see all the entries and winners, which are yet to be announced, in Polam Hall's Liddiard Theatre on Saturday, February 6 from 10.30am to 12noon.

The entries will then be on display at Darlington Town Hall for a week from February 15 and at Darlington Arts Centre between July 20 and 31.

Angela Foster, head teacher of Polam Hall Junior School, said: "Some of the artwork that has been submitted is fantastic and really demonstrates the creativity of young people from across the area.

"As a school, we pride ourselves on the learning and development of our pupils, and felt that the competition would not only highlight the skills of our own students, but would show the strong artistic development that is evident across the town.

"I hope that people enjoy the exhibition and that it gives them a taste of the talents of Darlington's budding Picassos."
