WANT-AWAY striker Gregg Blundell could leave Darlington to rejoin his former club Chester City.

The 31-year-old is out of contract but says he would not continue his Quakers career even he was offered a deal by manager Colin Todd to stay at The Northern Echo Darlington Arena.

All but two of Blundell’s 22 league appearances last season were from the bench but his campaign was cut short by a knee injury picked up during an ill-fated loan spell at Accrington Stanley.

Accrington have also been credited with an interested in the Liverpudlian, who said: “Darlington told every player they were free to leave and I didn’t hang around.

“I’ve not spoken to their new manager and I wouldn’t go back even if they made me an offer.

“I’m now looking for a new challenge. I had a knee operation in February and I’m going to Lilleshall next week to ensure I get myself fit before the start of the new season.

“I’ve already had two concrete offers from clubs and have received interest from two other clubs.”

Blundell left Chester for Darlington in January 2007, having signed for them two years earlier in a club record £100,000 move from Doncaster Rovers.

Chester were relegated to the Blue Square Premier last season, but the striker has held talks with manager Mark Wright and Blundell added: “I’m hoping to have another chat with him n e x t week.

“I’m keen to get back to the North-West and start playing again, and it’s probably a case of better the devil you know.

“I’ve got absolutely no problem about playing for Chester again because I enjoyed playing there last time and I know all about the way Mark Wright likes his teams to play. I know all about the club’s expectations in terms of dropping out of the league and bouncing back as quickly as they can.’’
