PUPILS from a Darlington school created a nativity with a difference after working with a professional drama company.
Students from Eastbourne Church of England Academy came up with an original play exploring the epic journey of the three wise men following the star to pay homage to a new born king, focusing on the way it changed the wise men’s lives.
The 22-strong company of young actors, drawn from students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10, worked together for eight days, including a weekend, to create the play.
The production was performed to more than 500 people, in four shows - two to students from years 7 and 8 and two evening performances to relatives, friends and the community.
Everything in the production - from the stage set, to the costumes, sound and lighting were all created by the pupils during the week.
It is the third drama production the Academy has commissioned from David Evans and his Nottinghamshire-based company, Forge Solutions. The company is to work with students for a fourth time in June of next year.
Alison Appleyard, academy principal, said: "This has been a truly inspiring experience for everyone involved."
