OPPONENTS who successfully battled against an agricultural training centre have now raised their objections to a proposed farm.

Plans for a traditional farm at Cherry Tree Farm, in Sadberge, near Darlington were submitted at the end of last year.

It follows a previous application to build a centre to train disengaged teenagers.

Villagers opposed the plans which were subsequently turned down by district councillors.

Instead landowner and businessman John Littlefair submitted new plans for a farm on the 43-acre site.

The project would initially be a mix of lifestock and arable farming. It would work towards becoming the livestock branch of his other farm, Home Farm, in Hart, near Hartlepool.

On the site would be various agricultural buildings, a poultry house, some temporary housing and a small workshop.

Sadberge Parish Council has raised its objections to the fresh application.

The council does not believe the business plan is viable, and there is not enough land for a viable farm.

The council was also worried about the effect of noise and smells on neighbouring properties in Beacon Hill.

Concerns were also raised about the extra traffic that would be created.

The application will be heard by Darlington Borough Council later this year.
