THE Great North Air Ambulance made its first landing in the centre of Darlington after a woman pedestrian was involved in a road accident.
The helicopter was scrambled to the incident at 1.45pm on Tuesday in McMullen Road, Darlington, as cover for road ambulances.
A female pedestrian had been injured on the road.
Traffic was delayed between Haughton Road and Yarm Road, near its proposed junction with the Darlington Eastern Transport Corridor.
The woman was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital by road ambulance with what were believed to be minor injuries.
A spokesman for the air ambulance said: "It is the first time we have been called out to Darlington town centre.
"The nearest road ambulance at the time was at Bishop Auckland."
