DARLINGTONS last two results have both been 4-0 away wins, but manager Dave Penney says the latest performance was not quite as impressive as the win at Grimsby Town.

Saturdays win at Lincoln City came almost three weeks after winning by the same scoreline at Grimsby.

Penney says each victory had its own qualities, but admits the display at Blundell Park at the beginning of the month was superior to that at Sincil Bank.

He said: It wasnt as good as the win at Grimsby, but its just as good a win because Lincoln had won three out of four games and have a new manager, which had given them a boost, whereas Grimsby were struggling for confidence.

So that means that this was probably a better result, but Grimsby was a better performance all round.

Darlington have now won six league games on the road and some of their best results and performances this season have come away from home.

They have conceded goals in only two of their ten away games C the 1-0 defeat at MK Dons and the 5-1 loss at Hereford C so all of their six wins have come without conceding a goal.

Penney says its due to Quakers being capable of playing on the counter-attack.

When youre away from home the onus is on the home team to come at you and were quite good at breaking out, said Penney.

When youre at home teams can come to defend so you have to play a different way and have to be a bit cuter.

It was like that at MK Dons on Friday. Brentford got a goal and tried to sit back and hang on to their lead but MK were patient and tried to break them down and eventually they did.

Penney has dismissed suggestions that David Stockdale and Tommy Wright are the focus of attention from clubs in higher divisions.

In recent weeks both have been linked with moves away from the club but Penney says he does not want to lose any of his first-choice players.

He said: We dont want to sell any players because we want them to push on and get into the next division.

Wed be loath to move anybody on, but theres certainly been no phone calls about any of the players.

Martin Smith took another step towards his first-team return when he was included in the squad on Saturday and joined in with the warm-up before the game.

He has been out of action since undergoing knee surgery in May but recently played two reserve games, scoring in both.
