A DARLINGTON boy has seen his golfing dreams come true thanks to a fundraiser that received great support.

Callum Moncur, aged 11 from Darlington, has been playing golf for three years and dreamed of playing in the under 18s Open Golf Final in Cadiz Spain.

Thanks to a fundraiser set up due to funding difficulties caused by COVID-19 that dream has become a reality.

The initial fundraising goal was set at £1,500 but within 48 hours the goal was reached and then exceeded.

Callum's dad, Warren Moncur, said: "He was a really good footballer, like an academy footballer but he got released so he packed it in and said he wanted to start playing golf, he's only been playing just over three years.

"He's definitely going now and the funds raised have really helped, as I'm currently self employed and business isn't great at the moment.

"Callum is junior captain at Darlington Golf Club and he's also a member of Steve McClaren's Golf Academy at Rockliffe.

"Golfing is all he wants to do, and he's good friends with Andrew Wilson who recently made it pro, so he really wants to follow in his footsteps.

"Paul Fraser has done a few write ups on Callum and he's been onto me lately about sponsorships, because we're definitely going to need a big sponsorship to help him turn pro."
