A HOUSE straddling two local authority areas could be converted into a care home for young people, including educational provisions, a planning application has revealed.

The planning application seeks the change of use of Woodbine House and annexe from residential to care home for up to five young people with on site education provision, parking and landscaping.

The development is aimed at very specific group of people as the proposed children's home will be for young people who have suffered traumatic experiences and will benefit from the peace and tranquillity of the location.

The education provisions are aimed to be for the use of the young people living on the site only.

The house is in the open countryside and straddles the border between Stockton on Tees and Darlington therefore planning permission will be required from both Stockton on Tees Borough Council and Darlington Borough Council.

The company behind the proposed application, The Witherslack Group is the UK’s leading provider of specialist education and care for children and young people with a range of special needs including, communication difficulties and complex learning needs, and is the highest rated independent provider by Ofsted.

The proposed children's home is aiming to be staffed 24 hours a day and open 52 weeks a year, whereas the school element of the proposal is aimed to run 38 weeks of the year.

The development is set to create 28 new jobs for the area.

The application can still be viewed and commented on on the Darlington Council website.
