THERE were two additions to the Darlington squad yesterday, but only one was a new face.

With Tim Ryan still sidelined, left-back Lee Ridley joined on loan until January while Neil Wainwright made an unexpected return from his loan at Shrewsbury Town.

His month with the Shrews was due to expire after this weekend, but it was cut short after they signed right-winger Shane Tudor from Port Vale.

gShrewsbury did not want to extend the loan so hefs come back a few days earlier,h said Quakers manager Dave Penney.

gIfm trying to make sure hefs available for Saturday, just in case we need him.

gWainy feels he did OK and the Shrewsbury manager says he did OK. He played three games, they won two and drew one but theyfve signed another wideright player.h Ridley, who turns 26 next month, joins on loan from Cheltenham Town and comes into contention for tomorrowfs home game with eighth-placed Wycombe Wanderers.

Ryan is out with a hamstring problem and John Brackstone sat out training yesterday with shin and back injuries so Ridley could make his debut.

As injury and illness problems crippled Quakersf squad last December, Penney had been keen to bring in cover before the deadline for loans which passed at 5pm yesterday.

He said: gHefs a strong player, likes to tackle and hefs a good defender.

Hefs match fit because he played a full game last week against Brighton.

gWefve got him in until the start of January so that covers seven or eight games and he will give competition for Brackstone because that was the only area where we were light.

gI didnft want to get to January with just one natural leftback.

gWe didnft want to be in the position we were in last season when we had injuries and illness but couldnft strengthen until January.

gLast season the illnesses knocked us badly. This year wefve had flu jabs to guard against that but you can still get injuries and suspensions so the bigger squad the better really.h Right-back Neil Austin missed Tuesdayfs defeat at Northampton with a hamstring strain and will not be available tomorrow either.

With Ben Clark a doubt for tomorrowfs game at Gillingham, Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson yesterday signed defender Eddie Nolan.

The Blackburn Rovers defender played for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s in midweek before moving to Victoria Park before yesterdayfs loan deadline.

Clark has slotted back into the side alongside Micky Nelson in the last month, but suffered a hamstring strain in training yesterday and could miss the game at the Priestfield Stadium.
