A DARLINGTON café along North Road could be turned into a pizza takeaway, a proposed planning application has revealed
Currently the premises is home to Cafe 204 which serves sandwiches, savouries, pastries and cake, as well as some hot food including lasagne, mince and dumplings and curries.
Cafe 204 is open from 8:30 am to 2:00pm Monday to Saturday, however, if approved, the new pizza takeaway would be open between 11am and 11pm every day of the week.
Due to concerns from local residents that the noise from the takeaway would be disturbing if it was to run that late, however, the applicants reduced the set hours to 11am to 10pm, the same closing time for other businesses along North Road.
The new takeaway could also require the installation of odour neutralising equipment to the rear of the building as well as noise reduction equipment to reduce the impact the takeaway could have on local residents.
Disability access could also be addressed with the change of use, and the applicants have been encouraged to include wheelchair access to the premises.
The application says the change of use may not increase traffic or parking difficulties within the area.
The application is still awaiting decision and can be commented on by the public by visiting the Darlington Borough Council website.
