MARKET traders have announced they will be reopening from June 15.

Darlington Market has been open throughout the lockdown, providing essential food supplies of fresh meats, fish, vegetables, and deli items.

But retail traders who have had to cease trading have announced they will open again on June 15.

Health and Safety measures will be in place including social distancing markers, hand sanitising facilities and market staff and traders will be on hand to give advice to shoppers.

The market is running at the reduced times of 8am to 2pm, Monday to Saturday.

A spokesperson said: "Throughout the lockdown period, Darlington Market has supported a network of essential traders offering fresh food and produce to the people of Darlington, both at the market and through home delivery services.

"Following the latest announcements from the Government, we are now ready to reopen the wider market in accordance with guidelines."

Darlington Markets is still finalising plans to restart outdoor markets on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

They will be relocated to the Market Square to increase the space available to allow social distancing at the market and along High Row and Northgate.
