A GYM owner is encouraging her members to get sweaty at home after going online with her classes.

Sue Spinks, who owns First Step 2 Fitness in Darlington, is offering remote classes after having to close her gym because of coronavirus.

Ms Spinks, and her colleague Fay Baveridge, are running about four classes a day, which people can access at home for free via the video communications website Zoom.

She said: "It's been quite a big learning curve for everyone but a lot of fitness instructors are in the same boat.

"This is quite personal because it's like we're in someone's house and we try and have a chat before and after each class.

"It's never going to be the same as a big class but it's better than sitting on the settee and doing nothing.

Mum Lee-Ann has been taking part in the classes at home

"The feedback so far has been good. I've had so many nice messages from people.

"I hope it helps people.

"We're trying our best. I have no idea what other businesses are doing but at least it's something we can do from home."

The two instructors are doing a range of classes, which can be adapted to home users' living arrangements, including zumba, toning classes, and workouts to rock music.
