A CYCLE path to help students on their school run has been proposed alongside a beck.

Darlington Borough Council has put forward plans for the Safe Route to School path in park land at Cocker Beck, in the Cockerton area of Darlington.

It will run from Staindrop Road, near its junction with Swaledale Avenue, to Eggleston View, near Branksome School.

It has been designed as part of other landscaping and ecological projects in the area. It will be relatively unobtrusive from a distance.

Three new wooden bridges will be built over Cocker Beck, two of which will replace existing bridges.

The plans said: The cycle track will be built in order to make its use as interesting and varied as possible, carefully designed to help people interact and as a consequence get as much as possible from the experience.

The path will also be accessible for people with motorised wheelchairs.
