A COMMUNITY has come together in a number of festive ways to celebrate the run-up to Christmas.

Cockerton’s Christmas activities kicked off with a tree and light switch-on Saturday, November 30 as local celebrity Pete the Sweep was chosen to press the on switch.

The event also featured crafts in Cockerton Library, music by Galaxy Roadshow, Santa’s Grotto in St Ts shop, food and drink from local businesses, a tombola and a performance from Cockerton Prize Silver band.

On Wednesday December 3, a Christmas remembrance service was hosted by Whitehouse Funeral services in Holy Family Church, bringing residents together in an evening of reflection.

Cockerton Community Group and Cockerton Club hosted their inaugural Christmas Fayre on Saturday, December 7.

Organisers said the fayre was well attended by local stallholders, residents and other community groups including the Branksome & Cockerton Residents Association.

Cockerton Community and Business Group continue to fund raise for a war memorial to be installed in the village.

As they reach the halfway point for the funds needed the group would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity.

A Christmas-themed treasure hunt is also currently running in the village, where clue sheets are available from First For Flowers, Peter Lord Hairdressing, Maddisons Barbers and St Ts shop until December 23.
