After Saturday's humbling at Hereford, Darlington defender Alan White admitted he was an angry man but said there were no post-match reprisals among team-mates in the dressing room.

Instead, says White, only manager Dave Penney did the finger pointing after Hereford inflicted only Quakers' second league defeat this season.

Prior to Saturday Darlington had conceded just five goals, but that tally was doubled by Hereford and White said: "I was fuming. Most people know what I'm like, I wasn't happy at all.

"Some words were said afterwards but they were constructive, we were not having a go at anyone.

"We don't pick out anyone individually because we're a team.

"The gaffer has obviously pointed his finger at a few people and we've got to take on board what he said.

"At the end of the game it was difficult to get your head around it.

"For the last 13 league games we have not looked like conceding and then we concede five in one game.

"Hopefully that's all our goals conceded now for the next 13 games.

"Hereford are on a good run but they are certainly not five goals better than us.

"We just weren't at the races, we didn't cope with the pace of their game."

Hereford took the lead in only the fourth minute, after putting Quakers under pressure from the kick-off and White admitted: "They started brighter than us but to let them get a goal from a corner was disappointing.

"Apart from the long throw at MK Dons we had not conceded a goal on a set-piece.

"We gave the ball away a lot and we were a bit too predictable, and we didn't get the ball out wide enough. Maybe the tempo wasn't always there and we were defending a bit too deep at times, but they were turning us around by using the pace they had up front.

"Fortunately for us we've got a game on Tuesday so we can bounce back and don't have to dwell on this result for a full week.

"Hopefully we can give Shrewsbury a good hiding and put this poor performance behind us."

Neil Wainwright helped create the only goal as he played 90 minutes in Shrewsbury Town's 1-0 win over his former club Wrexham yesterday.

But, as part of his loan agreement, he will not play at the Balfour Webnet Darlington Arena tomorrow night and neither is he permitted to play in the Shrews' FA Cup tie this weekend.
