PLANE passengers at Teesside International Airport got into the party spirit to help celebrate KLM's100th anniversary.
KLM is the world’s oldest airline to still be operating under its original name and it currently flies three times a day from Teesside to Amsterdam, and twice on weekends
Yesterday passengers were treated to today cupcakes, flags and t-shirts as they boarded flights to mark the landmark anniversary.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “KLM and Teesside Airport have a long-standing, successful partnership and I’m delighted to wish them a very happy 100th birthday.
“Thanks to KLM, local people and businesses can get worldwide from Teesside, with the award-winning Amsterdam Schiphol airport connecting us to more than 160 global destinations, multiple times a day."
Benedicte Duval, general manager for Air France – KLM UK & Ireland, thanked the airport for its support and said: “A company only reaches its 100th anniversary through two elements: loyal customers and great staff and what makes KLM so special is the authentic way in which we are able to combine the two."
