A GREAT-grandmother and great-granddaughter duo will be making dance school history as they take to the stage to perform together.

Barbara Tweddle and her young relative Penelope Summerbell will be the first set of relations separated by four generations to show off their talents for the Pierremont School of Dance.

Dancers are currently rehearsing for six performances of their latest show that will be entertaining audiences at Polam Hall School.

Great-grandmother Ms Tweddle said: “These shows give the dancers something to look forward to following their hard work and determination we love seeing it when it comes together.

"I have to thank the hard work of those people that work with me in making the costumes as these take endless of hours to make, we’d love for the everyone to come and see the show and come and enjoy themselves."

This year, the British Heart Foundation will be supported in memory of a Darlington dancer who died after suffering a heart condition. The intensive care unit in Darlington Memorial Hospital will also benefit following the death of a family member who dedicated their time and efforts to selling raffle tickets for the dance school.

There will be six performances from May 3 to May 11. The show will begin at 7pm on May 3, followed by performances at 2pm and 7pm on May 4, a show at 7pm on May 10 and the final performances at 2pm and 7pm on May 11. Tickets are £6 each or £7 for the show at 7pm on May 11.

Tickets are available by contacting the Bowen Road Hall-based dance school via Facebook or call 07568-524947. Donations of raffle prizes are also accepted by the school.
