THE gates of two beautiful gardens complete with a waterfall, grand lawns and wildlife meadow will be opened to the public this weekend as part of a national initiative.
The grounds surrounding a pair of properties in Blackwell, in Darlington, are an ever-popular attraction under the National Garden Scheme, which offers green-fingered horticulturists the chance to explore the private greenery around them.
The gardens of 45 and 46 Blackwell, DL3 8QT, which are opposite each other, will share a combined opening on Sunday, April 28.
Visitors to 45 Blackwell can expect to see a mature garden with a pond and waterfall, a number of trees, lawns and colourful spring borders all situated against the River Tees.
Refreshments and plants will be on sale during the open day at 45 Blackwell, between 1pm and 5pm.
Unusual species of plants will be on show at 46 Blackwell, as well as a pond and summerhouse in the back garden.
Trained dogs on leads are welcome and admission to both gardens is £4, while children have free entry.
Both gardens are only partially accessible for disabled visitors.
