A PRIMARY school has made history this year by becoming the first school to win both Darlington's indoor and outdoor football competitions in the 20 years both tournaments have been running.

The team of year 5 and 6 boys from Whinfield Primary School won both titles on consecutive days.

The boys won the seven-a-side outdoor competition at Eastbourne Sports Complex after going unbeaten through the whole event.

They have now qualified for the Tees Valley Schools Final this month at Middlesbrough FC's Rockliffe training complex.

The following night, after school, the boys competed in the indoor five- a-side competition.

The boys lost their first game and started slowly, going on to draw the next game.

They went on to win the final two group games and the third game was a 5-0 win, getting them through to the semi-finals, which they won 1-0.

The boys came up against Reid Street Primary School in the final in a tight game which finished 0-0.

The match then went on to extra time.

Whinfield struck the winning goal to bring the trophy home to complete the double.
