AN INDEPENDENT candidate is rallying for votes ahead of a local election.
Darrien Wright handed out letters to residents of the Bank Top and Lascelles Ward under Darlington Borough Council's responsibility.
Mr Wright said ward residents would soon be able to vote for 'three councillors' in the local election which is due to take place on May 2.
In his letter, he said: "I'm standing as an independent candidate, which simply means I'm not part of a political party, I represent you and not a party."
Mr Wright pledged he would bring a 'fresh new approach' to politics. He said: "Being a councillor is about standing up for our local community in the town hall, it's about making changes that benefit the whole community - it's about rolling up your sleeves and getting involved in our area."
The ward is currently served by three labour councillors - Cllr Veronica Copeland, Cllr Wendy Newall and Cllr Chris Taylor.
