A PRE-SCHOOL is looking for financial support to help enhance its outdoor play area.

Mowden Pre-School, on Bushel Hill Drive in Darlington, wants to redesign and improve its outdoor play area for the benefit of the children now and in the future.

The centre, which provides pre-school education for three to four-year-olds, applied to become a Co-op local cause in order to be able to update and enhance the play area, because, as a charity, they didn't have the required funds available.

Last year, staff at the school were advised that they had been chosen as a local cause for 2018-2019.

This means that the Co-op give them one per cent of what members spend on Co-op branded food products in their stores and selected services, as well as money raised from sales of carrier bags and co-op scratch cards in their stores.

In order for the money to be donated to the school, people can become a Co-op member and then they can choose Mowden as their local cause.

Staff and committee members will be in the Co-op store in Cockerton on Saturday between 10am and 1pm promoting the cause.

Jan Cossins, Darlington Borough Council ward councillor for Cockerton, said: "It is such good news that they've been chosen – it would be wonderful to rally support for them."

Mowden Pre-School has been running from within Mowden Infant School for more than 35 years and aims to provide an environment for youngsters to learn and develop the skills for their move into primary school.
