BIN collections across Darlington are subject to change over the festive period, with adjustments being made over a fortnight.

Collections have been revised by Darlington Borough Council to be carried out two days after the usual pick-up date for the neighbourhood.

Residents are also being advised to continue to recycle this Christmas, with bins and containers being made ready for collection by 7am. However, the time of waste collections may change between December 25 and the new year.

Most wrapping paper that is not glittery or metallic and has had bows and decorations removed, can be recycled. Christmas cards, wine bottles, clean tins and cans can also be placed into the recycle bin.

No changes have been made to waste collections for the remainder of this week, continuing until Christmas Eve on December 24.

However, pick-ups falling on Tuesday, December 25, will now be taken on Thursday, December 27.

Collections due on Wednesday, December 26 – Boxing Day – will fall on Friday, December 28, while residents expecting collections on Thursday, December 27 will have their bins emptied on Saturday, December 29.

No waste will be picked up between Sunday, December 30, and Tuesday, January 1.

Collections resume on Wednesday, January 2, for residents who would have had bins emptied on Friday, December 28, with waste also being taken on Thursday, January 3, instead of Tuesday, January 1.

Collections continue to fall two days after usual dates, apart from expected collections on Friday, January 4, now taking place on Monday, January 7.

Waste collections resume as normal on Tuesday, January 8.
