A COLOURFUL cascade of poppies will welcome visitors to a Darlington church next week.
Painstakingly knitted by dedicated volunteers, the eye-catching display was created in an effort to commemorate those who lost their lives to war.
It can be viewed at Bondgate Methodist Church on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings between 10am and 11.30am.
The poppies will also take pride of place at the church’s Remembrance Service, taking place on Sunday, November 11 at 10.30am.
They were created by members of the Chatty Crafts group after a similar display elsewhere in the region caught their eye.
Joan Robinson said: “We felt we wanted to do something and thought this was a simple and lovely way of showing respect.
"We don't know too much about those that went to war from this church but felt we wanted to do something for them.
“We’ve been making the poppies since January and now it’s up, it looks really effective, we are very pleased with how it has turned out.”
Refreshments will be served during viewing times.
