DARLINGTON take their good away record to Bradford (Park Avenue) this evening aiming to build on Saturday’s point at Leamington.

While no doubt disappointing that they drew 2-2 despite leading 2-0, a result that saw the team drop a place to 14th in the table, it at least continued Quakers’ improved form.

They have lost only one of their last six league fixtures and been defeated just once in their away games – only three other teams in the division can say the same.

One of those is leaders Chorley, who lost their unbeaten away record on Saturday to Bradford, who are enjoying a good season.

As well as Chorley, they have also taken three points off Brackley, Boston United and Spennymoor Town, who are all teams currently in the play-off positions.

It promises to be a test for Darlington, though they did win 1-0 at Bradford last season, Dave Syers scoring the only goal of the game.

Quakers were knocked out of the FA Cup last month by Bradford, a result that led to Quakers selling Reece Styche to Alfreton for financial reasons.

Harvey Saunders and Simon Ainge, now Quakers’ first-choice strikers, scored a goal each at the weekend and will start again this evening in a team unlikely to feature many changes, though there is a slight doubt over midfielder Tom Elliott.

He was substituted on Saturday as a precaution and may need a fitness test but is expected to be available, but Ben O’Hanlon remains sidelined with a hamstring strain.

On the bench on Saturday was Sanny Lingthep, the latest academy player to have earned a place in the senior matchday squad.

The 16-year-old midfielder from Catterick impressed Wright during last week’s Durham Challenge Cup tie when Darlington beat Esh Winning.

“He is very, very good and I thought he was man of the match in the cup game,” said the manager. “He’s tidy on the ball, he sees things that others don’t and has a lovely left foot on him.

“He’s like a Jack Wilshere player, he can work in little pockets of space and for his height he is very strong. He doesn’t shirk a challenge either. He can take a hit and will get up and give a few hits.”

Quakers have been drawn at home in the second round of the Durham CCC against Stockton Town, who were runners-up at Wembley last season in the FA Vase final. The tie is to be played week preceding December 22.
