TWO different dogs with a lot in common are looking to be rehomed together after being taken to a rescue centre.

Lurchers, Jess and Teya, are both the same age and are inseparable four-legged friends who lived together in the same home before arriving at Dogs Trust Darlington’s rehoming centre, in Sadberge.

Sue Embleton, rehoming centre manager, said: “Jess and Teya, both aged three, make a great pair and are the best of friends

"We would love to see them find a home where they can live together.

“Both of them adore human companionship and love nothing more than cuddling up for a nap on the couch together. They are also very sociable and love meeting new people.

“We understand that adopting two dogs is more responsibility than adopting one, however the rewards of keeping this gorgeous pair together will definitely make the extra workload worthwhile.”

Canine carers at the Sadberge base are currently caring for more than 18 lurchers, with the team unsure as to why there has been an influx in the number of lurcher-types coming into their care.

Ms Embleton added: “Every dog that comes into our care is truly unique, however the Lurcher breed can be misunderstood due to certain characteristics.

"There is a perception that lurchers need an abundance of exercise as they are extremely fast on their feet, however they generally don’t need any more exercise than the average dog and instead prefer to curl up for a snooze and a cuddle.

“Lurchers with a particularly high chase drive may be found wearing a muzzle when out walking, in case they get too excited around smaller dogs and animals, however this shouldn’t be taken as a reflection of their need for a loving family.”
