HIGH kicker Amrik Matharoo proved his skills after being awarded Best of Grade at a martial arts exam.

The eight-year-old, who trains with Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo Club, based at Haughton Education Village, has been training for more than a year alongside his sister Jaspreet, nine. After this belt success it means the pair are now nearly half way to black belt status after achieving their yellow belt.

Instructor Katey Wallace, 5th Dan, said: “Amrik has great natural movement for a kid his age and his concentration and focus for someone so young is exceptional. He really stood out at the recent grading and deserved the trophy. It's obvious that Jaspreet, as well, has been practising at home and really working hard towards her next belt. Both are amazing kids with a big future,” she said.

The pair both attend Harrogate Hill Primary School and train twice a week with Katey and the club.

Other members of the club who took a step closer to black belt and passed their next belts were: Euan White, Lily-May Anderson, Suezanne-Marie Mortimer, Elaina Burton, Isobelle Burton, Cody Heath, Olivia Chawner, Oliver Davis, Tianna Pascal, Bobby Coleman, Taylor Robertson, Honor Gent, Aiden Brooker, Loki Howe, Liam Pattison & Robyn Thompson.

The club train every Tuesday and Friday evening at Haughton Education Village and offer a Little Kicker class designed for 6-11 year olds as well as an older lesson for adults. Everyone is welcome for a free go. Simply go to www.chungdokwantkd.co.uk to book your free try.
