AN exclusive screening of an award-winning documentary will highlight the plight of female musicians.

Live performances will accompany the first North-East screening of Stephanie Clattenburg’s Play Your Gender on Friday, April 6.

Tracks initiative Noisy Daughters and Darlington Film Club have teamed up to show the film in a bid to highlight the obstacles that can face women in the music industry.

The documentary focuses on musician Kinnie Starr’s quest to discover why just 5 per cent of music producers are women and features interviews with prominent musicians including Melissa Auf der Maur of The Smashing Pumpkins, Patty Schemel of Hole and Sara Quinn from Tegan & Sara.

Teesside songwriter Heather Story and Girl from Winter Jargon will perform at the event, taking place at The Forum from 7.30pm.

The screening follows a successful inaugural event from Noisy Daughters that saw women from all areas of the music industry gather to share their skills, network and enjoy performances at Theatre Hullabaloo in March.

Tickets are £4 in advance and can be booked by calling 01325 363135 or by visiting
