MULLED wine, hot chocolate and mince pies will help entice shoppers to independent shops as part of a festive shopping evening.

The first ever Grange Road Christmas Shopping evening takes place on Thursday, December 7 in Darlington.

About 15 independent shops have worked together on the event, which will feature special offers, food, giveaways and live music.

St Augustine's School Choir will perform from 4.30pm - 5.30pm.

And from 5.30pm until 7.30pm there will be entertainment from acoustic singer-songwriter Chris Pryke, from Darlington, alongside Durham and Darlington Music Service musicians.

Grange Road is home to independent retailers including specialist fashions, home furnishings, florists, a delicatessen and bars and restaurants.

Event organiser Bill Gillow, of mens’ and ladies fashion retailer Geoffrey Gillow, said: "We have worked together to offer an evening of shopping, entertainment and special offers with something to please everyone. We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new to what we feel is a unique and special part of Darlington.”

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration said: "Darlington has a lot to offer shoppers and Grange Road in particular is home to a wide range of specialist independent shops. This is an ideal opportunity to come along and see what’s on offer as well as enjoy the festive entertainment.”
