FASHIONS and cultures from across the world combined on the runway of a lively show recently.
Hundreds turned out to watch Building Bridges, a colourful celebration of style organised by a group working hard to bring people of all cultures and backgrounds together.
The fashion show was the latest in a line of events staged by Darlington’s Celebrating Communities, an initiative aimed at promoting “peace, unity and diversity”.
Organisers Sajna Miah and Rawda Rashed encouraged businesses, schools and individuals to play their part in staging the fashion show, which took place in front of a packed house at the Majestic Theatre. Students from Darlington College and Corporation Road Primary School were among those who took to the catwalk in an explosion of colour.
Prior to the event, Ms Miah said: “There’s so much hatred out there and this is about getting Darlington residents from all backgrounds together to show what community spirit can do.”
Celebrating Communities co-founder Cllr Gerald Lee said the event was important in creating “greater understanding, appreciation and respect for one another.”
