YOUNG footballers have attracted the praise of a former Manchester United player after winning a string of competitions.
The boys’ football team at St George’s Academy attracted the attention of ex-footballer Paul Bielby when they topped their league, won county tournaments and took away the town cup recently.
Teacher and coach John Simpson said the team were thrilled to have impressed the footballer, who heads the Darlington Primary Schools Football Association.
Mr Simpson said: “Paul Bielby said they were one of the most successful boys’ football team he’d ever seen.
“We are all so proud of the children, they have worked so hard to achieve all of this.
“The team has been absolutely amazing.
“We are all overjoyed with their success.
“Their achievements have really given a positive lift to the boys and to the school.”
