A DIVERSE programme of events has been announced to celebrate the refurbished Darlington Arts Centre.

The centre, in Vane Terrace, Darlington, has recently undergone a £1m refurbishment and bosses have unveiled the autumn programme of events, which will run from September to December.

It will include a range of comedians including Justin Moorhouse, following his debut at the Edinburgh Festival, Jim Tavare, on his return to Darlington and Jo Caulfield.

There will also be a wide variety of music on offer. The all-girl Northumbrian Quartet will be at the centre on October 17.

Acoustic group Rainbow Chasers will perform on October 26 and musical comedy Make 'em Laugh will be staged on November 3.

Private Peaceful, the story of a First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad, written by children's laureate Michael Morpugo, will be one of the highlights. It will be staged on November 13.

Darlington Arts Centre will also host a visual extravaganza, Deserts of the Earth, on September 25 by photographer and geographer Michael Martin.

Resident clubs will also continue at the venue with a variety of nights featuring jazz, rhythm 'n' blues and folk music.

Darlington Music Society and Darlington Piano Society will play during the season.
