WORK has started on a £2.4m development to bring a former Darlington primary school back into use.
The old Rise Carr Primary School site, in Eldon Street, will be home to the town's Pupil Referral Unit and Education Other Than At School services.
Contractor Newton Moor Construction is upgrading the former junior and infant school blocks.
There will be a new hall, technology suite and library area, meeting rooms, changing facilities and an entrance and reception area.
The facilities will also be made available to the public as part of a community-use agreement.
Work is due to be completed by March.
Maxine Hepple has been appointed headteacher of the referral unit.
