HUNDREDS of Darlington students have taken part in a run as part of a project to encourage health and fitness.

Children of all ages from Haughton Education Village joined a 2km run around the school fields in support of the Tesco Great School Run. A total of 730km was completed by the students, and the results were passed on to the organisers.

The education village has now been entered into a prize draw to win 100,000 sports vouchers. The fastest runners completed the course in less than eight minutes, impressing teachers at the school.

Sports co-ordinator Zoe Gage said: "I am amazed how well they have all done and am delighted that they seem to have enjoyed it so much."

She added: "The aim nationally was to get 500,000 children running to promote health and fitness.

"It's also been a great project because it targets people of all abilities, not just the best."
