WORLD Book Day celebrations have continued for one Darlington residents a month on from the internationally-recognised annual event.

Christine Lamper entered a competition to Darlington library members of all ages to honour the charity-based day for literature lovers.

As part of the contest, residents were required to borrow a book from either Crown Street Library or Cockerton Library on February 23 in the run up to World Book Day the following week.

Ms Lamper, 71, was entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle Fire and was contacted by library staff last week to tell her she was lucky winner.

A Darlington Borough Council spokeswoman said: “The lucky winner was drawn by circus performances and friends of the library, Dot and Zooky, and the video was shared on our social media pages.

“Christine was invited to Crown Street Library on Thursday 6 April to collect her prize. Christine chose the Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet in blue.”
