EFFORTS to offer a financial boost to community clubs in need has been recognised as part of a national awards ceremony.

Darlington Building Society (DBS) earned the Mortgage Finance Gazette Community Services award after pledging to raise £160,000 for charity during its 160th anniversary year.

The Society has also committed to offering 160 volunteering days with DBS staff members providing their skills to Darlington-based charities.

Homeless charity, the 700 Club, and the Darlington Cares initiative are among several North-East groups who have received financial aid as part of the anniversary-year celebrations.

Colin Fyfe, chief executive of Darlington Building Society, said: “This award makes me so proud of everyone involved with the organisation, our staff and our members.

“As a Society, we pride ourselves on giving something back to all the communities we work in.

“Charities, organisations and individuals across the region have all benefitted from Darlington Building Society’s support, both financial, in terms of time and expertise, and in raising awareness of their needs.”
