CIVIC minded schoolchildren joined council staff and community leaders this week to clean up Darlington's streets.
Armed with pick sticks and black bin bags, 44 children from Cockerton and Alderman Leach primary schools braved the rain to collect rubbish in Cockerton on Tuesday.
The children were joined by chairwoman of Cockerton East Community Partnership Jan Cousins, community development workers and staff from Darlington Borough Council's Street Scene.
After the hour-long pick, the group retired to Cockerton school for well-earned refreshments. The group collected 22 bags of rubbish.
Ms Cousins said: "It was quite wet, but the children were great. We covered quite a few streets here. I am sure the children enjoyed it."
