SCHOOL children have boosted St Teresa's Half a Million Hugs campaign by taking part in an art therapy session.
The children, from Hummersknott School and Language College, in Darlington, visited St Teresa's Hospice to help patients make and decorate butterflies.
Hospice bosses said the event would raise awareness of the role art has to play in the hospice and the proposed £500,000 expansion project.
The money, which will be raised at fundraising events and through donations, will allow the hospice to provide more beds and develop a greater range of counselling services.
Hospice director Jane Bradshaw said: "The school wants to help us with our fundraising and this is one way to spread the word of what we are doing while giving the opportunity for young people to meet our patients."
Hummersknott teacher John Kelly said: "We are delighted to help.
"We try to support St Teresa's Hospice at every opportunity we can."
