BUS PROBLEMS

YOUR story about people crossing Priestgate, Darlington, in front of buses (Echo, May 11) gives me the chance to put forward my view.

The bus drivers are doing all right. It's the pedestrians who should give more consideration to them, not the other way round, as its a good bit harder to stop a big bus suddenly than it is for a walker to do so.

I'm not an original townie and am disgusted at how people here appear to think they have precedence over the buses.

I'm also sick of the grumbling about their time-keeping, which is good enough, and of the opinion that the bus drivers don't like passengers. If that's true, then no wonder, with the flak they get, they're occasionally late. They have a tough job and deserve more tolerance.

My view is that people who blame the bus drivers have nothing better to think or talk about (than complain).

Maybe a couple of years growing up in the country (where I was) would put a lot of folk in a different frame of mind. They take all the services for granted here - they're spoilt. - Miss A Johnson, Darlington.
