A DJ hid £1,000-worth of cocaine behind a toilet in the pub he was working in, a court heard yesterday.
Christopher James Francis Hughes, 20, of Huntley Street, Darlington, pleaded guilty to possessing drugs with intent to supply. The drugs were discovered when the licensee of the Old Dun Cow, in Post House Wynd, carried out a check of his premises on Tuesday, January 16. He discovered drugs and electronic scales hidden behind a toilet.
Police were called, and said there was enough cocaine to make 28 wraps, worth £40 each, giving a street value of £1,220.
Graham Hunsley, mitigating, said his client had been paid £100 to look after the scales and the drugs. "He sacrificed his good character effectively for the sake of £100," said Mr Hunsley. "Hughes was behind with his rent and was not a drug user.
"He did not know the value of the cocaine, and stood to make no more than the £100. He wasn't getting involved in the nuts and bolts of drug supply."
Darlington magistrates declined jurisdiction. Hughes will be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court on a date to be confirmed.
