EVENTS will be held in Darlington next week to raise awareness of the services on offer for people living with dementia and their families.
The mayor and mayoress of Darlington, Councillor Gerald and Ruth Lee, will attend a wear denim for dementia day at St Herbert’s Church, in Yarm Road, on Tuesday (May 19). The event runs from 10am to noon.
A singing for the brain demonstration will also be held at the health hub in the Dolphin Centre on Wednesday (May 20) from 1.30pm to 3pm in addition to the regular fortnightly sessions.
The events are being held as part of Dementia Awareness Week which aims to encourage members of the public to speak openly about dementia and overcome the stigma which often surrounds the illness.
It is also hoped the week will encourage those living with dementia to share their experiences to help improve understanding.
