A DEDICATED group of young volunteers have helped to spruce up a popular community arts venue.

The group of ten 16 to 18-year-olds spent a day at The Bridge Centre for Visual Arts, in Yarm Road, Darlington, as part of their National Citizen Service (NCS).

They put their artistic talents to the test to decorate colourful planters which will be displayed at the centre.

The NCS helps young people to gain vital work and life skills, and the group’s efforts also saw them win the award for most innovative social action project in the Tees Valley at their recent graduation ceremony.

Their team leader Michael Low said he was really proud of the group.

“They chose to work at The Bridge because they wanted to do something that would benefit the local community,” he said.

“They have done really well and the cherry on top was them winning the award.

“It is quite hard work but they came every week had a really good laugh as well.”
